I've just been to see The Hobbit and I'm disappointed. Pretty much everything is OTT and embelished well beyond the original story. The alterations, unecessary prologue and injected humour don't add anything to what should be a more grim and desparate fantasy.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

So, nothing like the book then? Did you go expecting Lord of the Rings 4, or something? Mark

Yes. Really enjoyed it. There was just a couple of things that didn't work in the story for me, but they can be overlooked as they weren't really integral to the story. And he never took his helmet off, which was a big plus for this film over the last one. (8+) Mark

I just thought it was 'watchable', it didn't really do anything for me either way. Urban had Dredd down though. The slow-mo drug was dumb I thought

It follows the book, but not enough. I went expecting The Hobbit, not LOTR, and it didn't deliver. For LOTR I enjoyed almost every minute in the cinema, and the special editions even more so (even with the blatant omissions). But The Hobbit is thin, sort of stretched, like butter scraped over too much bread. My main issue is with the injected humour. I won't spoil it here for those who haven't seen the film yet, but references to contemporary goods and activities just ruin the whole fantasy, it rips you out of the story. Why does there have to be added and OTT comic relief? It's not to tell the story, it's to sell the story.

I expected The Hobbit... What we got was the equivalent of Matt Damon's Bourne Identity. A rollicking adventure, which uses the name from the original, but tells a totally different story, that has nothing, or very little, to do with the book. Agreed. Following the book, they could have made a good film, but I think they feared people wouldn't watch it, if it didn't include the characters from LOTR, so they wrote them all into the film, where they never appear in the book. It seems, instead of making "The Hobbit", they made a prequel to LOTR. I agree about the humour, there was a lot injected. Watching it in German, I didn't notice the references to contemporary goods. Can you PM me a couple of examples. Because they are scared that a proper film won't pull in the audiences, that they have to add in the formulaic nonsense that they think people want. Maybe they should be brave and try and produce a proper film for a change.

Pirates 5 http://www.aintitcool.com/node/60315I blame the families who go to these shows, you know. ... Arnold to possibly start shooting the next CONAN in 2013!!! Now With VIDEO! http://www.aintitcool.com/node/60310I must try the Conan films again, don't remember them being very good but I was a kid, so... ... And it's not a mark of quality, but at least the next Die Hard will have an 'R' rating.

I've just seen the new robocop suit in "full" - has some kind of visor but right hand is still "human" looking. Still all black - would have preferred a silver/black combo similar to the original.

If I had to guess, the right hand is to accommodate the somewhat CGI gun.
