Legendary Hollywood car customizer George Barris designed and built it in 1966 for $15,000 in just 15 days using a 1955 Ford Futura concept model (purchased for $1) as a base. The car, which has been in his personal collection ever since, features the original fake Batphone and an oil squirter fashioned from lawn sprinklers.

Barris was handed the design from the studio and then he hired Bill Cushenbery to do the body work.
How is that 'George Barris designed and built'?

The more I read about Barris, the less I like him. He apparently claimed he was the one who designed And built KITT from Knight Rider. He didn't. It was Michael Scheffe. In the fourth season of the show, KITT had two modes - hard-top convertible and "super pursuit mode" (aka silly pop-out mode) which is what Barris made and TBH I hated both. Driving around in a bulletproof car with the top down was just silly.

I went and looked at other photos and the changes to the bodywork is pretty minimal, except possibly the three mortar tubes and the flame turbine at the rear.

I think that this is for the new movie. Personally the first was fine.

I saw the unfinished version and actually went to see the final version to see how different it was. In some respects I preferred the unfinished version with all the cables and green screens.

There was an implication that Fox put out the unfinished version just to drum up interest since they knew it was a stinker. Events afterwards were certainly dodgy.

How one mate describes The Hobbit "It's a money shot. A multi-million dollor, homo erotic, soap operatic money shot...and we paid to see it."
He paid to see it, I've no interest in seeing it.
