Yes you can. But of course, like DVD you have to break the encryption so it's not technically legal.

See this is why these companies are losing customers. They have to accept in this day and age people want to buy a film and then move it around digitally. People want to stream films from their hard drive to their TV as it's just easier that way. As long as they've paid for it, what's the problem?
Why would I buy a Blu Ray if I can't move it to my hard drive like I can with a DVD. I'll have to look into the right software to rip Blu Rays. Not so I can pirate them (as I don't agree with that), but so that I can watch HD films I've bought when and how I want.

What, you mean you haven't been buying the triple-play sets?

Actually I have. Are the digital copies Blu Ray quality? I thought they were only DVD quality.

They're slightly worse than DVD image size and sound quality wise, but better compression wise. A trade off. You can actually get a better copy in a roughly similar file if you rip the DVD copy in the triple pack and are a bit careful with your settings but obviously 'type this code into iTunes' is a lot less effort. Indeed, and on a phone or tablet, the HD picture quality isn’t necessary.

It may get so soon though. I don't think it'll be long before tablets that can at least display 720p video well will be plentiful. And iTunes does allow you to buy or rent 720p movies. I haven't seen a digital copy that's better than SD yet though and I have a feeling resampling a BluRay-quality video down to 720p would take quite a long time on your average home PC.. Jon
