I really enjoyed Oblivion and when I get my new PC (depending on if I have a job in the new year or not) this will be the 1st new game I play on it

Just got mine. Amazon said that preorders would get a free cloth map. The map is actually much more like textured paper than actual fabric.

Played last night... for about 5 hours! I haven't sat down and played a game for that length of times in years! Really good game though! I love the clean HUD, a stark contrast to some games *cough* WoW *cough*. I've started playing a Dark Elf and going down the mage path (i.e. destruction mostly with a but of illusion, conjuration and restoration). I'm trying to get involved in the alternate stories too. I don't want to get my head down into the main story and miss everything else. On ething that struck me is how much NPC conversation is going on! It really is like you're in a living world. Having said that, I have been told that I'm looking a bit pale and do I need a rest several times. One question, do you get any benefit from sleeping in game? Or does it just make time pass more quickly? NVM, found the answer - http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Sleeping

I think we may need to put a little public notice in the Meeting Place thread to state that Oliver Foggin Productions may not be quite so productive for a while I've seen more than one tale of someone sitting down a 8pm to play, and when they've looked up it's been 4am! That's a pretty hardcore playing session in my book. I've gone for my usual type of character; a wood elf with a focus on archery and stealth. Currently up to level 15 after about 25 hours of play. Edit: Just seen this on another forum (bit-tech). Haven't tried it myself yet but seen a lot of people saying it's worth doing (PC only I believe): "the field of view change is a must, just go in the console by pressing "~" and type "FOV 85". that makes the game much more enjoyable."

One thing I did which made me run away (in fact the only thing that made me run away) was trying to join The Companions. I started the duel with the guy and tried to set him on fire. He told me off saying "We don't use magic around here" and then tried to kill me! I'll try again but with a haevy armour type next time

Well, I managed to make my way up the mountain to High Hrothgar.
I learnt the shout stuff and that's all good.
Got killed by the troll at the top of the mountain though which was a PITA. Second time I managed to kill him but only by kiting him up and down the steps. Its health regen was a bitch though.
I also got killed in one hit by a giant as I was making my way to the bandits to the west of Whiterun to kill the leader there.
The giant hit me with his club and sent me soaring maybe 100ft or more into the sky. I was still gaining height when the game restarted. LOL!

Glad you're enjoying it. I've clocked up about 30 hours on it so far, and it's truely epic in its size and level of depth and detail. I've got about 5 shouts now, including getting the original one up to level 3, and one that allows me to breathe fire much like the dragons do. Good Times!

I love it! I've been doing lots of alchemy, smithing, cookin and enchanting too. If the game is anything like WoW then I imagine some of the best high lvl gear will be made rather than found or bought. I'm only lvl 6 atm but already relying a lot less on the back up weapons I have in my inventory and only using magic. I have a shield and club in my inventory though, maybe I should swap them out for magika potions? Hmm... With Unrelenting Force (or whatever it's called) I suppose I don't need to rely on my shield at all now. Will do that tonight. In fact, I have an Nord bow and lots of arrows. Gonna poison that up and use that then go in with magic

I think I may have temporarily lost a friend to this game. His last MSN message was "Skyrim time" and he's not been back since
