There are negative reviews about everything, the You Tube "dislike" bar should tell you as much - I can't see how an automatically stored shopping list, a few button presses and choosing a time you'll be "in", is more hassle than having to drive there and plod the same route around all the aisles every time. :)

Seriously, it's totally worth it, the pros far outweigh any cons :D

You'll probably wonder why you've been putting up with the physical store all these years actually

It's not more hassle until it goes wrong - which for me, seems all too often.

This time I paid for 12 bottles of beer, but only received 9. I now have to convince them of this, although I have no evidence.

It was a really weird substitution too. I ordered 3 different beers, all of which were substituted:

I ordered 3x Badger Champion which they substituted for 3x Badger Golden Glory. Not the end of the world, in fact quite sensible because I'd already ordered some so I obviously wanted some.

I ordered 6x Badger Golden Glory which they apparently had now run out of! They substituted it for Bottled Urine. Except upon unpacking, not only is it an inferior product but they only delivered 3!

Finally 3x Fursty Ferret were subbed for Tanglefoot, which isn't the end of the world although I have a friend who would argue that.

In my old job I was on the road all the time so I used to pop into whatever shop I was passing once or twice a week at lunch time. It was great, but it's no longer an option. It's now far cheaper and more convenient to order on line, but the mistakes and freaky substitutions are grinding me down. Even my very first order, they substituted 2Kg of cheap turkey thigh for 500g of expensive chicken breast - I was having a party for 12 people so I had to drive to the shops for more meat despite having paid delivery!

Never tried it, because I like walking round the supermarkets... it's a break from the kids! ;)

I know a guy at work who does use the online service. He phoned up to complain when his shopping wasn't delivered and they apologised and said they'd sort it out. He received his order, then a second, identical order was also delivered...

Cooool, free food!

I've often been tempted to try Abel and Cole. They provide a weekly delivery for a price and you get a veg/fruit box as standard but it's a mix of seasonal veg.

Then you can add meat, dairy, bread, household stuff, etc...

Anyone else ever used them?

With things like the ales, you can put a note in the packing notes section along the lines of "substitute any of this for lager and I'll send the lads round, (Wychwood/Shepherd Neame et al is good"

Tesco usually just double up on other stuff I've ordered, anyway if they throw in a random ale that's cool, that's how I shop anyway, I prefer to have bad new experiences than always having the same old good ones and never finding anything new :)

Ditto on Abel & Cole, always thought of trying them. However they only deliver in any given area one day a week - they'll tell you which on the website you put your postcode in I think - and for me it's Thursday, which means I'll effectively have to take a day off to receive their delivery. if I'm going to take a day off work, I might as well go to the shops meself!

Their stuff is very good, apparently. My brother tried it when he & his other half had a newborn and they were both in. Lovely stuff but quite expensive, don't think they could afford to do it regularly.

Hmm.. actually, they deliver to my (retired) parents area on a Friday. That might actually be workable - get it delivered there then pick it up on the way home from work. Just priced up my typical weekly shop and it's about 30% more expensive than a supermarket, but it's all organic and UK sourced. Am I going to stand by my oft esoused principles and stump up the extra cash? Hmm..

Jon

No, but I've had an "organic veg box" from a different company which is now under new management so my experience may be out-dated.

They used to leave the veg in a box at the back of my house, exactly where I asked the local delivery lady to leave it. The service was generally very good, and it was also quite good value. It was certainly cheaper than buying the same organic veg from my local supermarket, and I loved the way it forced me to try new things. They even gave a little recipe suggestion leaflet for the more obscure produce.

However, I had a big problem with their substitutions. They told you a week in advance what to expect in the box and I often planned my shopping and meals around it. The final straw was when I was expecting delicious wild mushrooms, which they substituted for limp disgusting week old beet-tops. I cancelled that day with a letter of explanation, and their reply made me so mad I prefer not to think about it.

No such thing here.

I think Amazon offer some dry goods, but that's about it.

Do you live in the German equivalent of outer Mongolia? We've had grocery deliveries since before the invention of the bicycle :?

Search for anything with the UK version, the prices are ridiculous  :

I've had both Tesco and Sainsbury's deliver without any problems, I generally prefer to order from Sainsbury's as I think the quality is better and I prefer some of their own-brand stuff.

I also have "no substitutions" set, and apart from the odd out-of-stock I don't have any problems.

I've never used online grocery shopping.
My lift share (my brother) and I drive past the massive Tesco Extra on the outskirts of Peterborough (slight detour off the A1) on the way home after work so it's very easy to pop into the supermarket. I generally don't mind rubbing shoulders with other members of the public and queues don't get me stress out so visiting the supermarket isn't a problem.

I never have and unless I become house-ridden never will. I can't imagine anyone else could possibly know what I look for in meat and veg, and also assume (even though I've been told otherwise) that the Supermarkets will always choose the earliest date for short life items such as milk etc.

Yep, not sure about the others but Tesco and Sainsbury's policy is to pick the longest-life product on the shelf. I always check the dates on my products to ensure they have a decent shelf life, if they don't then they get sent back.
