Hi,
I have been given the 'choice' of a new laptop at work. Budget is about £600 inc VAT.
we have to buy from insight so which would be the best to buy? from this list?
http://uk.insight.com/apps/nbs/results.php?C=102&S=1015&lang=en-gb&4515v=2&SB=plh&PS=50&compare=compare&200268v=4&4220v=Core+2+Duo&203112v=4&4203v=4%20GB

Is it better to go for more memory, bigger disk or quicler processor>?

Of the ones in your link, there's only the top 3 around £600. So I'd say the 2nd one, as it's the best specced side from the discrete GPU in the 3rd one which appears to have worse battery life as a result.

I'd go for the Core i3 or Core i5 processors now.

We started buying the new Tecra A11 with Core i3 processors (599€) and they are good.

If you want the more consumer oriented, then go for the Satellites...

I am naturally going to suggest the Toshiba models, but then again I work for them doing tech support. When you consider the number of machines out there, our department is pretty small and we're very rarely that busy (ie they don't go wrong that often).

We've bought 5 Tecras since July last year and had no problems so far...

Well, apart from the fingerprint reader for Windows 7 putting in a non-removable add-on in Firefox, which causes Firefox to crash at start-up. There is a registry hack to get rid of it.

cheers guys, I will ask for the Toshiba's and see what happens. I won't hold my breath the politics round here are something else... rumour has it they even used to change the badges on their company cars...

£600 and there's not a single Core i3 or i5 CPU on that list.
There's only two under that price, of which the L500-1VZ has a slight faster CPU and larger HDD with idential specs elsewhere.

But Big D is right. Go for one on his list.
