Has anyone used Songbird? It's a cross-platform media player that shares more than a little with itunes in terms of style, but has a native linux version. Think this may replace Amarok on my desktop. Check out the image...

It is apparently built on firefox code, so there is the scope for addons too, just like the shameless copy of coverflow you can see above!
It does last.fm scrobbling/radio, 7digital integration and a shoutcast directory. Coming soon, according to the website is cd ripping support - cool!

If you are running debian/Ubuntu you can get it here in packaged form - Clicky

I had looked at it a couple of years ago and it looks like a cool piece of software.

Tried it, hated it, uninstalled it... Then it was released, installed it, hated it and uninstalled it.

99.9% of what I use a media player for these days is downloading podcasts. It failed to download about 95% of the podcasts I pointed it, so I removed it. :(

I'm starting to see it's limitations, but at the moment it doesn't crash quite as much as Amarok 2!

Amarok 2 is still really buggy, hence my reason for seeking alternatives. Rhythmbox works fine, I just don't like it very much.

Naa, it's not linux that is crashing, it is Amarok 2 - the windows and mac versions are just the same!

Ah, I see.

I thought it was only available for linux. Back when linux was my main OS, Amarok was okay, but a little clunky.

That software you posted a screenshot of above looks pretty nice. But it just looks like iTunes - does it fit in with the rest of the system, looks wise?

It fits in reasonably well. It's similar to picasa in it's choice of fonts, but as far as I can tell they are customisable. It does look like Itunes doesn't it, plus with that mediaflow plugin - moreso.

Cool.

That's something I hate about iTunes on Windows - it looks a little out of place!
