Post subject:  HOWTO: Linux for Old Hardware

OK, to pluck an old post from mid 2006, we have the follow spec'ed laptop:

  • 12" LCD screen (800x600x32 resolution)
  • 128mb RAM
  • A "Pentium 2 processor sticker" with "system" showing it as a Celeron processor (433MHz)
  • A ~6GB Hard Drive
  • A CD Drive (unsure of the speed)
  • A floppy Drive
  • ONE USB port
  • A Modem jack
  • VGA out, Parallel and Serial ports
  • NO Ethernet
  • Windows 98SE
  • One of those special Laptop Card slots

Suggested Distributions:
Xubuntu
Damn Small Linux (DSL)
Scientific Linux
Slax

Suggested desktop environments are:
Xfce
FVWM
