Is anyone familiar?
I have an iPod touch with a cracked screen! Does anyone know if it is cost effective to repair or should I just not bother?
Is it something that can be done by a repair shop or Apple only?
All I have done so far is popped in for a chat with the local computer guy, who says its really fiddly and won't take it on.

It looks like (from a quick search) a replacement screen will cost you about 50 quid. I'd expect maybe another 30 quid at least for someone to do the replacement for you, given the iFixit repair step by step rates it as 'difficult'. You may well end up having to send it away to somewhere that specialises in repairing/modding iThings.

Having said that a new iPod touch 6th gen is 180 quid, so...

Maybe look for a replacement 5th gen on ebay, see if that's less than 100 quid?

You can get them replaced for about £35, £50 is rather steep

Thanks for both your replies.
I'm kinda disappointed with it tbh. My phone, a motoG 1st gen, gets much rougher treatment and has survived for nearly 3 years. The ipod is 18 months old and battery performance has dropped off a lot, scarcely getting through a day.
Any suggestions as to where I should look for repairers?

I should say the thing I like about it is the large-ish capacity. It can hold my music library so I can listen to anything I fancy, but do enjoy the randomness of the shuffle :)

Just google iPhone / iPod repairs and find one near you. Loads of them about these days.

The MacFixer is very good - possibly not the cheapest, but he uses genuine Apple parts, which not all repairers do... hence the cheaper prices. You get what you pay for I guess, the ones that say they'll replace the screen for £30 to £60 will definitely not use genuine Apple parts, the screen on its on is around £80 (genuine Apple part)

I've had plenty of iPhone and iPad screens repaired for around £35 and I've never had any issues. If it was something to do with the innards or power then yes getting Apple is better but I don't think it really matters when it comes to a bit of glass.

This is the company I use

Tonik UK

Well I sent a repair quote request to Tonik last weekend when I read your reply Caz... Still waiting.
Steve -at that price, for a few dollars more I could get a refurb!! OTOH I can appreciate there is no point unless you can earn a living and pay the bills.

Thanks for the advice though
