Hexus Link

So you can now get a 10 core desktop processor without dipping into the Xeon pool. The price is somewhat eye watering for the i7-6950X - £1400 is frankly taking the p!ss in IMHO.
Mind you, the lack of competitionmeans they can basically charge what they want.
i7-6900K at ~£900 is about where the previous gen i7-5960X sat with a slightly higher frequency - 8 cores, 3.2GHz cf 3.0GHz
A bit more segmentation at the lower end with 2 six core chips that vary slightly in frequency (both with a 0.1GHz bump from the previous equivalents), the main differentiator being the number of PCIe lanes:
i7-6850K - 3.6 GHz, 40 PCIe lanes, ~£525
i7-6800K - 3.4 GHz, 28 PCIe lanes, ~£370
The i7-68xxK's seem to be about £40 - 50 more than the previous 5820K and 5930K
At least the numbering this time round is a little more consistent.

I wonder if AMD's Zen chips will offer any sort of competition and bring some sanity back to high end pricing.

Luxury!

By Coke I remember my E6300, when times were Crysis and clockers were nervous...
