Registry Hacks

  • Change clock back to Windows 7/8 style

    • Path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ImmersiveShell
    • Name: UseWin32TrayClockExperience
    • Type: REG_DWORD
    • Data: 1
  • Get rid of the Quick settings buttons at the bottom of the Notification centre

    • Path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ImmersiveShell
    • Name: UseActionCenterExperience
    • Type: REG_DWORD
    • Data: 0

UI Tweaks

  • Make Titlebars use Accent colour >> External Link

  • Choose custom Accent colour:
    1. Press Win+R to bring up the Run dialog
    2. Type "control color"
    3. I have found, what with having coloured titlebars, that R163 G163 B163 (#A3A3A3) works pretty well

  • Make Virtual desktops useful:
    1. Open the Settings App and go to System >> Multi-tasking
    2. Set "On the taskbar, show windows that are open on" to All desktops
    3. Set "Pressing Alt + Tab shows windows that are open on" to All desktops

Application-specific Tweaks

  • Firefox
    • FXOpera theme makes FF look much more native
    • You may want to tweak the default text settings. I found that the default font was Times New Roman. I got better results when I changed this to either Arial or Corbel
  • Edge (Project Spartan)
    • It's crap - don't bother
