Help!

There appears to be something wrong with my Windows Update. It appears to stall on checking for updates. Nothings been updated since 26 July.
I've tried the windows update troubleshooter thing but it seems to hang as well. Furthest it's got it Fixing Problems.
Now Windows update won't even open from the Control Panel.

Windows 8.1 Pro x64

Any suggestions?

Can you do a system restore previous to that date if it comes to it? In fact I wonder if it is a faulty restore point causing the trouble, I've had that happen.

Can you manually download the updates from MS website?

http://www.thewindowsclub.com/download- ... e-manually

Might bypass any problems?

Not sure. I would need to know which updates to download and it can't even get that far. Even trying to open it from the Control panel causes the window to freeze at the moment.
I do recall it seemed to have a problem with either the last or last but one set of updates it downloaded - said some failed but then worked and I'm pretty sure that's when it started having the issue.
I'll try rolling back to see if that sorts it. Just need to work out how to do that - windows help here I come!

You probably need to empty out the softwaredistribution folder and bounce the service.
Just run the appropriate fixit from here.
