I've had a Dyson DC25 Overdrive for 6 years and it has been pretty good. Any issues I've had have been sorted under warranty without question and whilst it was the most expensive vacuum cleaner I've bought over the 6 years it has arguably worked out the cheapest.

Recently though the handle/hose has been refusing to come out and the ball sticks makes an occasional 'click' when being pushed. In trying to pull the hose out this morning I impersonated Hulk and now need a new one.

Argos have the DC40 Animal for £220 I can collect today which would be handy but I noticed the rating for carpet cleaning is only D. I appreciate Dyson's claim to fame is no loss of suction (and it's rated well in all the other areas) but I'm now thinking that suction isn't all that great to begin with. Some equivalent Vax models are A rated for example.

So, whilst the Dyson is still under consideration is there anything else anyone would recommend?

Even better if it's from Argos and I can collect it today!

Dyson 360 eye.

That is seriously close to the top of my geek shopping list.

Lol!

I've got an organic helper to operate the device already so the eye would only put her out of a job ;)

Would happily stick with Dyson. Our first one was the DC07 and lasted around 7 years (dad used it to vacuum up some brick dust/rubble!) and we've had our current one for 7 years too.

I bought the DC40. Turns out its carpet rating is B not D ( good job on the advertising ). I don't think the bulls quality is as good as my last DC25 and the way the hose attaches isn't as neat but it'll do the job.
