Hi

My sons Laptop running a genuine copy of win 7 has suddenly started saying "This copy of windows is not genuine" on a splash screen at start up and in teh bottom right hand corner of the desktop.

Any thoughts for a fix?

Windows had a brain fart and thinks it has been moved to a different computer. Easy thing to fix it should be reverting to its previous state.

Hit start type "system restore"
Go next, tick "show more restore points" and take it back a day or two to before the deactivation.

Normally you won't get the same problem again.

In that case either there has been a change of hardware (probably by breaking) or your licence key has been blocked, or your system might have forgotten it's key about 10 days ago.

If you click the activation thing and change product key to re-enter the COA from your little sticker, it might work, or you should get an error code that begins 0x... that might shed light on the situation.
