Post subject:  Reinstalling GRUB

Bit of a noob to Linux so please bear with me.

I have Debian Lenny installed on my laptop, unfortunately I updated my Windows 7 Beta to the RC at the weekend and guess what - yep forgot that it updates the MBR and now can't get into Linux.

I've tried using the install disk in rescue mode but cannot get GRUB back.

Is there a straightforward easy way to get Debian back up and running without having to re-install.

The only live CD I have is SUSE which identifies my hard drive as /dev/sda*, yet using fdisk -l via the rescue method shows /dev/hda*.

Re-installing is going to be a pain as all the files I need (python, etc) for my mobile broadband are in my /home folder. (it took days to get it working in the first place!).

Any help would be appreciated.

You may want to give this a go. I've not tried it myself, so let us know how you get on!
