Just listening to the MacBreak Weekly podcast and they brought up a piece of free software called Time Scroller. What it does is enable you to put in a specific time and find out the equivalent time in another country, so that if you want to phone someone in, say, Australia this evening you can find out the local time there to see if it's convenient.

It's available here and you can have it as a Dashboard Widget or as an iPhone app.

Useful app but is now £1.49 on the App Store.

Disconnect is an anti tracking tool. Allows pages to load quicker and in Safari at least there is a toolbar indicator that shows how many ads and stuff it is blocking.

https://disconnect.me

certainly worth a look.

I am going to have a try of that.

You know the story... if something is free, you are not the customer but the commodity. I am quite willing to pay for software, as we know what is involved in getting to market, especially software that stops me from being sold. :)

Well I have donated. I am more than happy to pay for shareware or donationware. I must have hundreds of licences from small independent developers.

Useful little free tool..

iBetterCharge

Small app that queries your paired iDevice(s) over wifi and tells you exactly how much battery charge they have left and will post alerts if the battery level drops below 20%.

Having now been using a Mac for 4-5 months, I've definitely come to like the following:

Transmit: nice FTP client that can be integrated with Finder
iTerm: Terminal on steroids. Particularly like having split view
Sublime Text 2: Text Editor. I use it with the Emmet plugin. Very keyboard orientated, which works for me.
Vox: Music player that supports FLAC. Not sure this quite gets a firm recommendation yet, but it is at least free
Pixelmator
CodeKit: Really useful mix of web dev tools, including image optimiser, SASS pre-processor, live browser updates (no need to refresh) and an include system for static sites.
Tweetbot.

Need to add Alfred to the list: http://www.alfredapp.com/

Speeds up so many common tasks for me, and I've still got quite a lot of exploring of its functionality to do.

Yesterday I discovered Dash. How the hell this has passed me by for so long I don't know, but especially with out [LIFTED] internet connection this should make my life a lot easier. In short, it gives you easy and searchable access to all the relevant element documentation for a whole host of programming languages / markups etc.

http://kapeli.com/dash

Also integrates with a load of text editors, plus Alfred and some other bits so that you can short cut straight into a Dash search from other software. Can be run for free (albeit with some waiting for searches) or can be purchased for $20.

I'm new to the forum but have had a MacBook Pro for some time. I was wondering if anyone could suggest any free photoediting software I could use/download. iPhoto doesn't let you resize photos, which I find totally annoying and also somehow typical of Apple. Appreciate any suggestions. Cheers! :)
