You can resize upon export in iPhoto. That aside, I think you're right to look for something else, as iPhoto isn't a great bit of software.
You can also resize in Preview - it's a surprisingly competent bit of software in fact, considering it's free.
If you choose to get into photo editing a little deeper, then I'd recommend looking at Pixelmator. It's not free but good value for the money. http://www.pixelmator.com/mac/

Ah, I had no idea those were options. I feel that Apple doesn't make these tricks obvious. I'll give that a go first and then see if I need an upgrade. Thank you for the advice.

Hey. What is it you're wanting to do? If it's just resizing images then you can use preview or Automator to do that. :-)

Cheers everyone, I finally figured it out with preview. ;) I needed a way to resize pics from my canon dslr.
