Why would you? Given the average RAW file is over 20MB in size and no apps can open them or work with them... You quickly fill up your tablet with images you can't view or edit. Buying an extra couple of cards would be cheaper, if you need more storage on the move. |

I don't know about Android based tablets but this works perfectly well on the iPad, I know because I've used them both. Mark |

Ah, okay. I'd only heard about things like Adobe Photoshop for tablets, which doesn't support RAW. Personally, I'd still rather have a couple of extra memory cards with me. |

And not everyone shoots RAW of course. Last time I used mine was to pull SD cards together from a few people at a wedding so a selection of pictures could be passed around at the reception. Worked well. |

I'm trying to get another iPad for the studio at work - with an EyeFi card, you can set up a wifi network for the iPad to sign into, and thereby you can share what you shoot, as you shoot. |

A 64GB tablet (like my iPad, for example) that has say 40GB free after you've put some music and apps and what have you on it can store just over 3,200 20MB files. And my iPad can view the RAW files from my Sony DSLR in it's inbuilt image app quite happily, which means any other app which uses the standard iOS libraries can load them too. And you can't view pictures on a compact flash card. And I'd rather look at them on a 10" tablet screen than the 2" screen on the back of my camera. Yes, it's a very expensive storage device. But then, it's not just a storage device, is it? But other than that, yeah. Jon |

No, you can't view pictures on a compact... oh god. It is a bit ambiguous isn't it  ?OK, what I mean is one advantage of a tablet over having more cards is that having the images on a tablet allows you to review and possibly process them (to a degree) 'in the field', whereas just having more CF cards while cheaper allows you merely to capture more images, meaning you can't review any of them until you get back to where your PC is, beyond what you can see on the camera's own screen. And we all know they're not really up to much. Jon |

Nobody is going to be processing images in the field. Most will wait until they get back to their calibrated screens to do anything sensitive. Reviewing images on a tablet is fine. Basic post-processing is fine, if that's what you want. I guess photo-journalists will be happier than lugging a lappy about with them, so they can do some basic post work before firing it off to their picture desks.

Would Eye-Fi card not also work? Probably a better solution, because you are not limited to one device, any Wi-Fi connected device can receive the images and store them - although I suppose you would need some special app for the iPad, as it can't just save the incoming stream to storage and then access then, like other devices. |

No one professional, but I'm sure a lot of hobby photographers would punt it from the camera to their 3G enabled tablet, do some processing and upload straight to Flickr, or the like... |

Why all the hate towards processing on the iPad (or other tablet device)? I think if you'd properly examined the market for photography apps you'd discover there's enough 'pro' editing apps for it for any professional photographer to easily get by with it. There's even ones that give you accurate colour readouts so you don't need to have the heavy reliance on screen calibration. I really don't think you all realise the depth and breadth of the photo related apps available for the iPad, because there's a huge amount out there. (8+) Mark |
