If you can't stand the heat...

Seriously though, don't take it personally. I'm sure no-one is trying to take it any further than a bit of fanboi banter.

I don't have a set of screwdrivers to open the side of My MacBook down here with me in Bath! What will I do??? (I do actually have a set of security bits in nice small sizes, so that may get me into a new iPhone - who knows)

Quite.

Don't troll if you can't handle the (timid and light-hearted) flames. I thought it was exactly what you wanted, and why you started the thread to be perfectly honest...

Troll is overused around here, maybe you should google the meaning. It doesn't mean what you think it means.

I tried to have a normal discussion here but in the thread that suggests the anything apple is less than amazing it is not possible because people get their knickers in the twist and personal attacks start together with name calling.

I just see a thread created about a complete non-issue, to be honest.

To be fair we have more than a few users from Mac-User, and we're truly blessed that Marklar didn't come over...

And you still can. It's not dissimilar to what Apple and other tech companies have done with torx screws, how many people have a set of torx drivers hanging around? OK, it's not like they are hard to find or expensive, but the principle applies.
There are methods out there, and they start at just $9.95 (plus P&P).

What is it with apple users defending getting screwed by the company all the time? I just don't get it. Maybe think different is really different...

Apple users generally don't care what happens as long as they can get on and live their lives. This doesn't bother the average Apple user, and probably pisses more PC and Linux people off because it's not mod'able or open. The average Apple user doesn't delve into the hardware or tinker with the software, they just get on and use it.
Start taking Firewire off the devices and people will complain. People won't like it when Apple screw around with the way the OS decides what file should open up in what application. Some screws, that probably wouldn't have been noticed in the first place, really are the last of most people's concerns...

Quite. I have issues with apple, but they're not related to the hardware, because that's not why I bought the machine.

Finally a sensible post. Let's leave it at that...
