I'm wondering if the bios is playing silly beggars... Dosed up on painkillers and am not capable of analytical shenanigans at the moment, but I'd have a look through the bios settings to see if anything is amiss. Plug and play settings would be my first port of call.

The question would then be why did Mint work straight away if it's a BIOS issue.

This really is a strange one. Personally, I would go back into the BIOS setup and select the restore to default settings option, then re-install Windows.
I'm not even sure why, but the little voice in my head told me to suggest that, and who am I to argue?
