bought a dijiridoo instrument from an eccentric friend, everyone can play it ok exept now that ive bought it its useless as I cant even play the thing  anyone have experiance of these? ive tried it like a trumpet, and other random ways to blow into it but it just isin't happaning read up on how to use it but still doesn't work

It's a little like blowing a trumpet, but you keep your lips really loose rather than having them tight. |

Make a noise like tractor engine with your lips. A kind of BRRRRRRRRRR sound. And place the didj to one side of your mouth. i.e. not like a trumpet where it is at the middle of your lips. |

I can play but I've never had enough of a go to practise circular breathing. I can do the circular breathing without the didj though. |

thx oliver? I have finally learned how to make the sound and theres me thinking my didje was broken how long does it take to learn circular breathing? it looks impossible in videos and I cant do it and I want to learn it fast due to my "overly eager" personality

Maybe it just isn 't for you bratty ... for starters your mouth needs to be relaxed .. don't worry about circular breathing yet, just get the basic sound first .. Takes plenty of practice. Also, there should be wax around the end of the didge which can be moulded gently by warming it slightly with your fingers .. this is used to make the mouthpiece smaller or bigger .. it makes it much easier to play if it is the right size for your mouth .. if it doesn't have a wax mouthpieces see here for how to make one .. I saw that vid earlier. That guy is incredible! Also, hearing his breathing helps me to understand how the circular breathing thing works. I always thought the process was slower than that. |

so if it isin't for me it means its impossible for me to learn it and eventually somehow learn to circular breathe? or is it possible that not all people can master the didgeridoo??  I must be dreaming as I never noticed a didgeman on this forum before with a didge avatar, how bizzare..... my didge has already been modified the mouthpiece instead of wax its got tape all round it to make the mouthpiece a lot smaller etc, seems to work, I can do the basic sound no problem now and am shocked when I see circular breathing videos as it looks as tho it takes months to learn etc

I'm sure its possible for you to learn . . . I was just being a little flippant. Would really recommend trying to get some beeswax as it is adjustable according to your mouth . . you'll never find it easy if it is the wrong size. Circular breathing takes a long time to get right. I would really recommend practicing the basics first, getting a good note, maybe a little rhythm. One fun thing to try once you have a good steady note is humming at the same time into your didge .. start with a slow hum and raise the pitch slowly, you should get an interference wave which will make the sound oscillate .. hard to describe but you'll know it when you do it. Also try making different sounds as you produce a standard drone, try sounds like ""ooooeeeeee". Like any instrument it takes a long long time to become good but it can be fun as soon as you can produce a standard note. Enjoy Didge. |
