Seen the film years ago (don't actually remember much of it  ) and many of King's other books that became films, but I've never read any of the books themselves...

The Shining is a classic of the horror genre.

The ornamenal bushes are quite scary in the book, as are the wasps, and the masked party is unsettling. You don't get that in the film, just Nicholson hamming it up with a knife.

Never read the book but I've seen the film a few times.

I love the film.

I may have to get the book.

Yes, do so. It's quite a bit different from the film especially in the latter stages. Personally I think the film is fairly dull and Jack is too crazy almost from the start. Much of the emotional content of the book seems to be missing which I find with all the Kubrick films I've seen. King's books have a habit of translating poorly to films with notable exceptions such as The Dead Zone, Stand By Me, Carrie, etc.

It was IIRC when he wrote as Richard Bachman.

Maximum Overdrive FTW!

And it's soundtrack is probably the closest AC/DC have come to a standard greatest hits, far as I can tell:

Unless you count Back In Black ;)

The film is quite different from the book.. especially the ending.

Yes only the basic concept was the same, the main characters back ground and how he got into the game is completely different, the game had no boundaries and it all ended in the main Character try to stop his intestines spreading out across an aisle of a plane :?

I can remember reading the Backman collection - Rage, The Long Walk, Roadwork and The Running Man. The only two to stick in my mind are the Running man and The Long Walk.
The Long Walk was all about a marathon walk to the death, reading this thread has got me curious so I'm going digging when I get home see if I can find the book.
