James May will attempt to build a full size Spitfire out of Airfix. He will only pass the challenge if the BNP don’t take a picture. Tonight, BBC2. 8pm. |

There's something really interesting about the TV projects that James May takes on. I find them incredibly watchable. Mark |

James May has a way of explaining quite complex things in a very matey kind of way, but without appearing to dumb down. It helps he's also very clued up about what he's talking about, too. He's like a favourite uncle or elder brother who knows all about interesting stuff. |

I have enjoyed his previous solo TV outings - he’s a good communicator - he can explain stuff without going into hyperbole, and yes, some of what he talks about can be quite complex. I am very much looking forward to these, though I seem to remember him mentioning on Jonathan Ross’ show that the times get mucked about with after the first four. |

Roger, wilco. Will RTB for some TV ![]() I also have one of his books, very entertaining, though I think his newspaper column tends to be a little woolly these days. |

+1 I was fixed to the Tele when his man in space and the moon landing documentaries were on. The Plasticine Garden plot at the Chelsea Flower Show should be interesting; apparently it went down like a lead balloon with the toffees there… |

that man should build a spitfire with a working propellor so he can put the spinning propellor to his head to shave off that horrid hair he has that makes him look like something that lives in a cardboard box in city streets ![]() |

I really enjoyed that. I built a plastic kit model about a year ago, and enjoyed it immensely. ![]() |

I've only watch the programmes on boys toys and girls toys. The Airfix programme was quite good, and as stated above, he can explain complicated things in a simple manner. He is also rather 'calm' compared to Jeremy "POOOOWWEERRRRRRRRRR" Clarkson. I look forward to the rest of the series. As for his hair, I saw an old episode of TG on Dave when May had short hair and it gave him more of a grown-up, regular guy look. The long hair now gives him a recognisable look. Anyone remember when Clarkson had hair like this? ![]() |
