So, my sister got an unwanted upgrade on her phone.
Which she's kindly given to me.
To check my SIM would work in the new handset (we're both on Orange) I stuck it in and switched it on - it works!
When I stuck it back in the old handset, my SIM shows as inactive.
Which means I can't copy all my numbers to the SIM and on to the new handset.
Which sucks.
What also sucks is I've discovered the Samsung doesn't sync with OS X, so I can't just sync the phone as I would with the old Sony Ericsson.

Any clues? Or am I off to the Orange shop tomorrow with my phones and a request for them to sort it?

What model Samsung is it? I managed to get mine to sync with Leopard, but it required some cunning and a dash of trickery.

It's an S5600. Google has been no help. Thanks Google.

I don't know about Orange, but O2 in Germany has a web interface, which allows you to send a message to your old 'phone, which will copy your contacts to the web, you can then do the same in reverse with the new 'phone.

I would try reseating the SIM, or going to Orange and asking them why it isn't working. They might also be able to copy your data over for you - certainly some mobile carriers here used to offer the service when switching 'phones.

My old trick for dodgy sim cards (when I was working at Carphone Whorehouse) is to take it out and give it a good wipe across the contacts. Make sure there is no dust or grime on them and try it again.

Works most of the time.

What I found most annoying about Samsungs is their inability to copy a whole phone book over bluetooth (from phone to phone).

I never tried to sync a Samsung with a computer so I can't help there.

Yeah I did think about the MissingSync, but the phone isn't supported at the moment. Maybe in the future.

I'll try again with the old handset and see what happens.

Something I've noticed - the browser is based on WebKit. :)
