It was always at my grand parents’ house, and when my grandma died a couple of years ago, the house needed to be sold. Now that it has, various bits and pieces are being distributed, and I get the cuckoo clock. It was always a thing of fascination for me, and I was asked what I would particularly like. I chose that. It’s probably not worth much, and it’s pretty old, but I like it. I’ve just got home from a busy day, part of which was dropping by my parents to pick it up. I’ve got it working, and it’s ticking away happily. It needs a bit of a fix, so I will probably take it into a repair shop in town over the next couple of weeks. One of the bellows has broken, so it only goes “cuck” and one of the hands needs replacing. Getting it mended will be money well spent. It makes me happy - it’s a good thing to have. It also makes me sad because the people who owned it are no more, and it’s “home” has changed because of that. Anyway, it’s here, and at 9:30 it will chime and the little door will open, and the cuckoo will make it’s noise ![]() For some reason, my grandma bought a couple for furbies. I seem to have “inherited” those too. |

I've always wanted a grandfather clock. My grandparents didn't have anything I would have wanted - they were never ones to keep things for decades because of 'sentimentality' - it was all about 'functionality'. |

I never got a chance to keep anything from my great grandparent's collection, but they had some nice clocks. Mechanical clocks are a real wonder. I trust you enjoy your new found treasure. For some reason, I've always wanted to know if they ever struck 13. |

When my Gran died, she didn't have a lot of stuff left. She had moved to a sheltered flat, so most of her possessions had either already been passed on or sold. In the end, I got some ebony elephants my Grandad had brought back from his time in the Far East during WW2, and a G-Plan bureaux which now lives in the hall and hides all kinds of things. ![]() |

According to this site, it is not politically correct to own a cuckoo clock, and I should think twice before having it fixed.
http://ezinearticles.com/?How-to-Fix-a- ... id=1532026 It’s a clock, FFS. Get over it. |

We've got a grandfather clock that we bought in Scotland, but the oldest bit of family furniture is a chest from my mothers side which bears the legend 'RW 1678'. |

There are a few old clocks in the family. Sadly, the place where they used to take them to be mended closed a few years ago - it was a proper clock maker’s too. Any cock repairs have to be done in London now. I fond something comforting about a good ticking clock. Otherhalf prefers silent clocks. |
