Microsoft don't always make it easy!
Nobody ever cleaned up when users left the company before, that means that we have a lot of users on the system who no longer exist. I made sure they were all disabled and set about deleting them - making backups of their home directories, for example.
The frustrating one was their e-mail accounts. Why doesn't Exchange 2003 include a facility to dump specific users? I've now managed it with ExMerge, but that took some searching and then it doesn't work "out of the box", I needed to set up additional groups and users to accomplish the task!
It looks like Exchange 2007 at least has an export option...
But Exchange 2003 comes with Outlook licences, Exchange 2007 doesn't, so you need to purchase the Outlook licences extra - not a major problem for machines which include MS Office, as it is part of the suite, but for machines that only need e-mail, that is another additional cost and licensing worry!
Our supplier says that most companies upgrading to Exchange 2007 keep a copy of 2003 kicking around, to save on the Outlook costs!
