Have we not got a thread for this? I didn't find any listing for it in forum search. *shrug*

I tried to stay away from all the pre-broadcast build-up as there were so many commentators bemoaning the change in gender, then the change from Saturday to Sunday (which I did make mention of once) and basically saying the show was ruined before anyone had seen anything of it.

I really enjoyed the first episode, and would like to give a special mention to Salad Man.
If you going to confront an alien in a dark alley by yourself after a night out, that's the way to do it.

I liked it, but after about 15 minutes, I was starting to get edgy. Why? I wanted the music, and that was bothering me more than I expected. I didn’t like the Capaldi era treatment - too shrill, and that god awful clock-based intro. I liked Capaldi, but I felt his talents were wasted way too much.

The music didn’t disappoint - much more electronic for a long time, but not sure about the panel beating rhythm in the background. It felt separated from the rest of the music. Maybe it will grow on me. The best, recent, version of the Who theme IMO was actually done by Oribital.

Anyway, it was a good start. It certainly felt like a reboot rather than a continuation. There wasn’t even a recap from the previous story. Let’s see where this Doctor takes us.

Hmm..maybe I'll have to return to Doctor Who and test the waters. I gave up sometime during the Matt Smith run so I'll give the new show a chance and see.

Watched E2 last night - she is very "breathless" ;- not sure if this is part of the "Regeneration" and she will slow down or will be like this all the way through

The TARDIS is back, and I love the new de-materialising effect. It's like it's turning to glass, and the way the light on top streaks skywards. Brilliant.

I'm not so keen on the way The Doctor now seems to need to wing her entire arm every time she uses the Sonic Screwdriver. Seems a bit cumbersome and a little unnecessary to me. *shrug*

If you remember the Doctor Who Confidential documentaries they ran on BBC 3 after each episode of the first series of the reboot, they showed a few TARDIS dematerialisation effects, one did look like it was turning into glass before vanishing. I think it got outlines around the details. Almost as if the chameleon circuit was drawing and undrawing the box. The decided to use the old traditional fading in and out effect instead.

I never really used to watch the Doctor Who Confidential shows.
But interesting you mention the chameleon circuit ... the designer of the new TARDIS has confirmed the spinning TARDIS in the new control room is that very circuit.

Heh.

And my wife, somewhat cynically, said that’s something lined up for the merchandising market.

That was also my first thought.
Second thought was "I want one!".

Well, yeah. It can be a USB powered thingy that can site on the desk and spin occasionally.

Not sure about this week’s spider based story. Too many untied threads left, especially to do with the fates of the main menace in the story. After last week’s story, this really seemed poor in comparison. Probably the worst of the lot so far, IMO.

I was in the room whilst this episode was on, but barely even looked at the screen, a few glances at most really.
I'm quite glad you report it as being a poor episode, Paul.
As a semi audio drama it worked okay.
