Just been asked in the cafe if I wanted my brown bread chicken sandwich toasted? No I don't! Weirdo Here's the laws: White bread: toast, toasties & bacon or sausage sandwiches Brown bread: all other sandwiches & to eat with butter with prawn cocktails or soup I occasionally have granary or brown bread as toast but white is much better Discuss

I'll happily toast whatever type of bread I have. This morning in fact I had a couple slices of seeded brown batch bread toasted with butter and marmalade for breakfast. Nice!

I rarely eat toast. Once in a blue moon.
We generally have fresh, dark bread over here. You can buy "toast" bread or "sandwich" bread over here (what you would call a typical white loaf in Britain, although the former is generally only for toasting, it tends to be smaller and drier than sandwich bread), you can also get it "whole grain", but it isn't considered "real" bread over here - no baker would be seen dead selling it!

Yeah the bread over there isn't the same - that isn't necessarily a bad thing

True - for a toastie I guess it generally needs to be white MMM egg and bacon toastie where you have cooked the bacon in the toastie machine so it basically becomes a fried bread egg and bacon toastie

It may be sacrilege but I've made toasties and grilled cheese sandwiches using wholemeal/brown bread. Yes, white bread is better in this respect. I also prefer toast from brown bread because it tends to be crunchier.

I'd much rather have brown or any other form of interesting bread of white in pretty much every situation. Plenty more flavour and it tends to hold together better when heated etc.

We mainly have brown bread at home so when I've wanted to whip up a quick cheese & ham toastie it had to do. It's not the same though. The last time I made a toastie in fact I went to the shop and bought a loaf of thick white just for that.

I agree. Brown bread isn't the same. I always keep a loaf of white in the freezer as I live alone and don't really eat much bread (she says with a crusty roll on her desk waiting for lunchtime lol)
