Evelyn Beatrice Hall (28 September 1868 – 13 April 1956),who wrote under the pseudonym S. G. Tallentyre, was an English writer best known for her biography of Voltaire entitled The Life of Voltaire, first published in 1903. She also wrote The Friends of Voltaire, which she completed in 1906.

In The Friends of Voltaire, Hall wrote the phrase: "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it"(which is often misattributed to Voltaire himself) as an illustration of Voltaire's beliefs

There's no pie option so it's not a valid poll ;)

I disagree with a lot of what you say, but hifidelity's quote sums it up. Vote cast.

Plus, you seem like a nice guy, even if you do talk more drivel than me... ;) :P

Exactly. He infuriates me at times, with his closed thinking. But that is his opinion and it wouldn't be the same without him, when he isn't talking politics, he seems like a nice enough guy.

(Appropriate vote cast)

It can be awfully dull if everyone agrees.

I think the forum rules - which are at the top and which I know we've all definitely read :) - are a pretty reasonable set. Persistent breaching of the rules after being told it was an issue by the mods seems a justification for suspension and then eventually a ban but while Steve and I rarely agree and can argue quite forcefully, I don't really see that he's breached those rules more often than some of the rest of us, nor do I know if he's had conversations with the mods behind the scenes.

If someone posts something that would get the hosters - who were all grateful to I'm sure - in trouble, then yes, you're out. If you persistently break the rules and continue to do so even after the mods might ask you to refrain, then a suspension then ban seems fair. As would being 'a troll'. But I'd never want someone banned for posting something which I simply disagree with. And I don't think Steve's a troll, I think what he posts is his opinion. As long as he's being honest and isn't being abusive or disruptive, that's fine with me.

Meh, every circus has a clown.

Posting a poll though... talk about needy.

I may not agree with you, and I do find your posts abrasive at times, but if we voted to silence people, then we’re no better than those we fear, or indeed no better than those who we fear we may become.

I'm with Evelyn Hall... and Steve is a polite lad with a lively point of view.
