Quote:
The FIA is launching an investigation into allegations of race-fixing by the Renault F1 team.

F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone has confirmed that the FIA is investigating the result of last year's Singapore Grand Prix.

The inquiry is focusing on suggestions that Nelson Piquet Jnr was told by the team to deliberately crash, an act that brought out a safety car, which benefitted team-mate Fernando Alonso, who went on to win the race.

Piquet, who was recently sacked by the Renault team, has since voiced his feelings towards Flavio Briatore and unconfirmed reports are suggesting that the allegations may have come from him, following his dismissal.

Poor old Nelson, having to compete with the shadow of his father must be hard.

Does sound like sour grapes to me though, I mean he hardly needed telling to crash a car, it seemed second nature to him.

Meh, all pits to car transmissions are monitored by race control, if they told him to crash they would have had to use the force. That's how Lewis Hamilton and Malcaren got caught lying, they said one thing but race control came back a week later and said "ahem...I don't think so" As said, he probably got it the wrong way round, they actually said FFS DON'T CRASH! :P

P.S. What's occurring?

Maybe his just bitter in the fact that he was given a chance in F1 with Renault who to be honest were very patient with him over a season and a half and he blow it.

The odds of him crashing out were pretty height with his track record so it just sounds like sour grapes to me (although you never know with Alonso in the team, if it turned out to be true I woundn't be shocked).

Briatore and Symonds are out, and Renault will not contest the allegations (via autosport)

I must admit to being stunned at this new when I heard it yesterday, wonder if Alonso was in on it or aware of it happening?
