Not a hardcore Batman fan but DKR didn't bode well with me. My main gripe was according to the trilogy, Batman was only Batman for about eight months (IIRC). So Bruce went through years of training for less than a year's worth of service. It didn't sit right with me. There were too many plot holes and I thought it was weak. But in the end, I guess Nolan wanted an ending to his "story".

Sully - If you've seen American Sniper, take that same storytelling structure but apply it to only one incident*. And yeah, it's as patchy as that sounds. Only Hanks' performance stops this from being mostly a bit boring. It continually flashes back to that day because it wants to be realistic but has nothing to glue it all together... Put it this way, when did you last see a modern movie end after 95 minutes?

It's 3/5 material IMO.

* Even the credits sequence is identical in structure.

Suicide Squad - Finished this mess. Has no idea what it wants to be; apparently they merged scripts, ideas and fcuk knows what else after BvS wasn't the hit it might have been. So moments of humour utterly jar with moments of intensity. The CGI is woeful. The baddie is the bastard child of Japanese horror and a Power Rangers episode. Most of the movie is boring because not a single character is defined properly, not even the stars (in every sense) like Deadshot or Harley.

The dialogue is generic in the main... I'd actually forgotten about Joker. He just needs punched in the face. He has no persona whatsoever, probably because he has no background whatsoever. Think of all the face-pulling and vowel-strangling Nic Cage has provided down the years, cos that's what you're getting here. His mute goons are genuinely more interesting because at least they have curious masks.

This is actually the worst film I've seen all year.

That's all you needed to say. ;)

I thought it was sh!te, but started wondering if I had fallen asleep and missed something that tied it all together, given the opinions of some people I know - talking like it was a tour de force.

I watched the extended edition, which apparently is now compulsory for WB/DC films to make any sense. And even then it's a mess.

I suspect people are afraid to say what they really think about such a hyped film lest loud voices don't agree... By almost any objective measure Suicide Squad is sh!te.

Fantastic Beasts and where to find them.

Very good. Thoroughly enjoyed this. Good combination of levity and darkness. Hopefully they can keep it up for the next one (which I assume there will be).
A solid 7/10 from me.

Took the kids to see Storks. Figured I'd have a little sleep. It turned out to be waaaay better than I expected. It probably helps that I like Andy Samberg and his usual goofiness came over well. I did an actual real LOL once or twice.

Went and saw Arrivals and Dr Strange

Arrivals
Full 5*’s – a really good twist on the whole Aliens arrive
Makes you think

Dr Strange
3* - 4*’’s

There were some funny bits that actually make me chuckle out loud
Effects were brilliant (the whole moving street scenes)
And of course all set up for a Dr Strange II – MCMXII

Arrival is one of the best films I've seen this year. Dr Strange just needed a better villain, like most of the Marvel films. It was still good, but they can't keep relying on sidekicks over investing in a new Loki...

Rogue One - Good film for the most part... You can tell because it's got way too many characters and it's still OK! The sheer amount of people it has to cram in also affected the final third, I'd bet my life on it. I can't say any more without giving stuff away. It's edge was immediately dulled when it was clear the first third was just getting introductions out of the way in the main, but it never truly dips.

It's definitely worth going to see, and especially if you're a SW geek. Then you'll probably be wanting multiple viewings.

Bad Santa - This film is pretty awful now.

There's a Michael Che special on Netflix though, and I suggest you watch it :D

ION, this is the worst review I've seen for a film like this

http://www.denofgeek.com/uk/movies/coll ... uty-review

I've seen that trailer, and I would happily have the studio and those associated with it's production done by the relevant authorities. It's false advertising like you wouldn't believe, up there with printing something like 'Amazing movie', but taken from 'Amazing movie in this POS somewhere'.

Yup, I wouldn't have gotten any hint of that from the trailer. Mind you, I thought it looked like crap anyway so wasn't planning to see it anyway.

Just watched The Martian.

It's very very good. Storming performance by Matt Damon.

Read the book. If you found the film good, you will find the book amazing. They missed out a lot of the humour in the film and half of the challenges that faced him are missing from the film as well.

I would say it is one of those must read books.

Watched Trumbo last week. Very good. Starring Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad). Excellent dramatization. I was wondering, whether it wood be any good or not, but it was really compelling.

I didn't think there were too many characters and I enjoyed it all
