The News Huddlines referred to the pound coin when it first appeared as ‘a “Maggie” - thick, brassy and thinks it’s a soverign’. :lol:

I have no qualms on saying goodbye to it - it’s never been a nice coin - they always look battered and knackered. Hopefully the new one (which I like) will be more robust.

As long as vending machines still work I don't really mind. We've got several 'sided' coins already after all.

Yes but this will be the first coin that has a different diameter based on where you measure it.

The 50p and 20p have sides but are the same diameter no matter where you measure them.

It‘s all down to the metal’s properties these days, not the size or weight.
