I got to play with one of these things today. It was a development one, so I guess it may not be final quality, but the display was dreadful. The screen was (obviously) close to the eyes, but you could see the screen pixelation. It detracted from the illusion. I hope the production models have a higher pixel density so they are not obvious.

Which version was it? The update from dk1 to dk2 had a big increase in the screen resolution.

The first one was always noted for the poor resolution.

They've never stated the actual resolution of the screen but aways improved it.

We had DK1, and now a DK2 at work.
The DK1 is 640x800 each eye (less is actually rendered too).
Though it's still vastly better than the Virtuality kits I tried in the 90s.
In terms of build quality, I didn't think they were at all bad.
The slight latency is a little nausea inducing but that passes eventually.

The latency problem was fixed with dk2 as well I believe. Or possibly that's the next version?

They're using a thing where the pixel will turn off if there is a lot of movement. The darkness isn't picked up by the eyes and so doesn't see the flickering but it means that pixels are only on when they are correct and in he correct place.
