Windows actually recognising I've inserted a USB stick. My TV not automatically going to the last viewed channel on power-up even though I'm using the remote. A hoover with noise cancelling technology and firmware updates that someone has actually tested first... Some of it will be attempting to build a better mouse trap, but Apple became a success again by improving on what already existed, largely. As have many companies. Heh, I'm reminded of the three seashells bit in Demolition Man! |

No, you want a wifi connected hoover that records telemetry data on your hoovering then uploads it automatically to a website where you can compare and compete with your friends to earn online achievements. We're already part way to this - my hoover has a USB port, and I can download data from it on when I hoovered, how long for and how much distance was covered. Add in enough smarts to connect to a wifi network and a database back end & web page and you're done. Jon |

Domestic appliances last 10 - 20 years, so I don't see the point in making them smart, after a couple of years the rest of the world will have moved on and they won't communicate with anything any more. They will be full of security holes and the manufacturer's "platform" will have advanced and you will have to replace your perfectly working device for a new one, in order to keep your achievements. I'll stick with dumb appliances, thanks all the same. |

My hoover hoovers. I don't see the point on gathering any information from it. More hassle than it's worth if you ask me. I do have a singing washing machine though. |
