What a horrible way to go. Also, I imagine that's going to be a rather expensive negligence case for the hospital.

Ed Sheeran has 16 songs in the top 20?

So is that the entire new album or has one of his old ones had a surge in popularity? But yes, I gather the charts people and the music industry big wigs are freaking out a bit as it looks like the Suffolk lad has broken the system.

If music sales are at such a level that any one artist can GET 16 songs into the top 20, then the system was broken long before they got there. And let's be honest here, it was the record label big wigs that broke it.

The charts now are a bit of a free-for-all. From what I understand of it, it's now a weird digital mish-mash of YouTube views, Spotify streams and the odd download. I think it's something like every 100 streams are currently counted as one "sale" for chart purposes, and even the charts company is concerned enough to move the goalposts - shortly, it'll take 150 streams to count as a sale, which is all a bit of a mess really, but then when new ways of consuming music come along, I guess these have to be registered to help generate the charts. I can't help thinking that, whatever one thinks of Ed Sheeran (or his music), one person having quite so many entries in the top 10/20 is a sad day for music. Mark

I tend to spend more time looking in the obituaries than the charts these days!
