I need to impress my girlfriend desperate, long story.

I want to make some us some lunch whilst she's reading in the bedroom. I have the following:
Pasta (duh, I'm in Italy)
3 small brown onions
1 large red pepper
Can of pureed (sp?) tomatoes
Loads of assorted ground chillis, chilli powder, packeted chilli mix etc.
Bottle of local rose if that helps.

Tell me what to do!!!!

1. Fry onions. Start off with a hot pan (should sizzle when onion added) and then turn down to a low heat. Make sure the onions are chopped pretty finely.
2. If you have tomato puree (condensed, not just passata), add before anything else and give it a good few minutes cooking time before any more ingredients go in.
3. Chop peppers, then add to frying pan, cook for a few minutes
4. Add you can of tomatoes
5. Add a little bit of the chilli, and if you have any paprika that's also good. Remember to add in small stages and try to make sure you aren't going to blow her head off. If you've got basil, that works well. Allow to simmer whilst cooking pasta
6. Depending on the quality of the tinned tomatoes, you may want to add a small pinch of sugar just to take the 'tinny' edge off it.
7. Pasta into boiling salt water. Try it before the time on the packet unless you really like overcooked pasta!
8. If your sauce is too thick, add small amounts of the pasta water to it until you have the consistency you want.
9. Mix together and serve.
10. Throw the rose in the bin.

If it works, we want the long story.
If it doesn't work, we want the long story.

I wasn't sure you would, but I can probably oblige at some point. At the moment, I still have too much to do to pull things back!!
