Where do you stand on the ratings and what have you? Been shocked recently?

I suspect the Board isn't even the problem really, it's more 'how many people will watch an 18 compared to a 15?', or at least a belief that's an issue. It's certainly annoying when you've got an action film with characters' dialogue getting cut off like, 'Mother... BOOM!... Run!'

I want whatever keeps kids and younger teenagers from chatting to each other and lighting up the room with their phones... although there's supposed adults who are no better.

In all honesty I prefer to watch films uncensored. If that means an 18 rating over 15 then so be it. I think it was Jack Reacher that got a 12A whereas I felt a solid 12 would have been adequate. There were a few kids who didn't like some of the scenes.

I never really agreed with changing 12 to 12A.

No. By nothing.
It's a bit silly with the whole ratings thing, as extreme violence can get passed in a 12 film and yet swearing pushes the ratings to 15/18.
As long as the violence doesn't have blood then it's all good.
I guess it's just a lack of consistency.

The theatrical re-release of Alien was a 15. Originally, it was an X (18 equivalent).

Not to mention any nudity can ramp the ratings up - usually higher than violence will. Message: violence is more OK than sex.

The guidelines for universal films is getting better with a clampdown on language in them. Especially U cert films.

It does lead to some finicky decisions from time to time. The UK version of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty has had a very short sequence removed where you can see a topless woman in a poster in the background. I think that's all it was....the bbfc's own site doesn't say.

Found it elsewhere:

Quote:
The distributor showed the film to the BBFC and asked for advice regarding the rating. The board concluded that a BBFC 12 classification would be likely for the uncensored version but that was too high for the distributor. The BBFC then suggested some censorship that could make the PG rating possible. The distributor acted accordingly and removed a shot of a naked pin-up girl and reduced threatening moments in a fight.

The only time I've ever questioned a rating was for Southpark The Movie.
I was walking out thinking *Warner Brother's (cinema) are getting a bit lax with the old ID these days, half these people aren't eighteen'.
I didn't realise until later it was only a fifteen. I really was surprised when I found out.

Still really funny though.

I notice 'donkey raping' gets past the filter but not [LIFTED].

I wouldn't want my children to watch Hollyoaks and that's supposed to be family viewing. Just as well I don't have kids eh?

I find it absolutely bonkers that language is filtered more heavily than sex / gore / violence etc.
