Triggered by an article in the Guardian which lameted the loss of the paper and foil wrap of kitkats, and the loss of the plastic smarties lid, I read the comments section which talked about the freebies/toys you would get from foods esp aimed at kids.

The things I recall:

- a "cling-on" toy that consisted of a rubbery or plastic item with six arms, each ending in a "sucker". You could throw it and it would stick to most surfaces. Think I got it from Kellogs cornflakes.

- the bike reflectors (orange) embedded in a coloured plastic base in the shape of the kellog's logo

- this item was from either PG tips or Typhoo - it was a tea but came with a small toy. The toy was a rectangular piece of card "wallet" which had a window cut out. There was another card insert which you could push/pull out and this would the image in the window so it was almost animated. I guess it was a better version of drawing an image on paper, placing another sheet of paper on top, drawing an altered version of the image and then using a pencil to roll the top sheet back/forth rapidly to create animation.

Does anyone else recall stuff like this?

I remember something being in most cereal boxes when I was a kid and it was a fight with my brother to see who got it.

I have some star wars spoons from when the remastered movies were released.

I used to collect lenticular cards that came with Shredded Wheat, etc. The collecting gene is strong in my family!

(Sorry about poor quality pic, it's from eBay.)

Cereals boxes often had cut out dioramas on the back which you could then set up miniature scenes with. I also remember scenes that you could put transfers on around the time of Star Wars.

Same here. Though now that I am older I am not bothered by such trinkets. I opt for own label cereals without the toys.

I remember the backgrounds for action figures and what have you :)

I wrote to Kellogs once to tell them there was a spelling mistake on the Ricicles boxes  , they sent me a book on their manufacturing process, wish I'd kept it now.

As a kid, I used to pop out the reflector, stick the plastic backing beneath my T-shirt and then click the reflector back in place so it looked like I had a series of reflectors on my clothes. I was ubercool back then.

I remember every lad had those plastic beads that went on your spokes until we all decided they were just for the girls.
