New Doctor to be revealed live on TV on Sunday

Might be wise to avoid this thread if you don't like spoilers, although if you want to only find out at Christmas I suggest you find a cave to live in.

Is this the first regeneration that's older?

I am happy to announce that the new Doctor is older than me. So I am happy. Ok, so the age gap is not in single figures, but I am pleased to see an older actor take the helm of the TARDIS.

I just hope that with an established, highly regarded actor with a long career that they give him better material to work with. Right now, I fear that the Good Ship Who is being steered towards the Pantomime rocks where wreckage of previous incarnations can be found.

I might actually watch it now they've cast someone interesting.

He is a quirky actor so will be good.

In World War Z, Peter Capaldi is in the cast... As "W.H.O. Doctor".

I've worked with Tennant.

I remain to be convinced. Here's my argument:

Each Doctor so far has been younger with each generation - whether that was intended or simply a coincidence I don't know. Capaldi will reverse that trend, and make the Doctor seem to age again.

I guess you could argue the maximum number of regenerations has been dropped, so why not reverse the ageing process into the bargain. It's safer than the potential for ending up with a 2000 year old Doctor in nappies.

Mind you, I wasn't convinced by Tennant or Smith, but they both won me round.

This. Especially Tennant - probably because Eccleston did such a great job of reprising the role, but he was superb.

Smith won me over in his very first outing, despite my concerns.
