I think I've got it  I've had a sore throat for about the past week and it's steadily got worse and worse. Today I feel very hot and feverish and quite tired. and light headed Basically, I know what I feel like when I'm ill with a fever and I can bet my temperature is quite high atm

You'll get over it. Here's something to consider. Last year, ordinary flu caused the deaths of about 6000 people in the UK. So far, H1N1 has caused the deaths of 700 people worldwide. Take an aspirin, keep your fluids up and go to bed for a couple of days. Stop panicking. It's not as bad as the media is trying to make out. Don't fall for the hype. |

The wife had flu like symptoms the other day. 2 days in bed and she is more or less fine. I've got a headache & sore throat but I'm still at work & fine. |

So why are we going into pandemic mode then? Is this a rehearsal for the Bird Flu we’ve been hearing so much about? Either we are being deliberately scared so the lizard people can take over, or swine flu is something more sinister. |

do you drink 'Indian' tonic water if so please get some as it contains quinine also leave 'asprin' alone use paracetamol or Iperprofen … |

Excellent Re the number of deaths. I think that the initial number of casualties in Mexico is what caused the panic and the government (wisely?) prepared us for the worst. What really p***ed me off was the fact that we had already been through this "panic" with SARS which was transmitted from person to person iirc, and then bird flu which was only caught from birds. What is troublesome about this so-called swine flu is that it is being transmitted from person to person and therefore is more of a risk than something that you catch from birds. Now that things are hotting up I am personally concerned, if only in as much as it is going to be hard to cope if the whole family gets struck down at different times- we could all be unwell for as much as three weeks if we give it to each other. We don't really have too many unhealthy people in the family, but my wife is susceptible to chest infections which could add to the misery. Professionally, I have to be concerned, not only because I am expected to be, but because my job probably increases my chances of coming into contact with swine flu but tbh, I think we are at the stage when it is so widespread in the community that if I'm going to get it, then I'm going to get it. "Flu" is only a class one communicable disease (iirc from our basic training) which is basically because if it is endemic in the community, taking anything other than basic precautions in work is virtually pointless, but we have had kit in work nonetheless and I might have to get dressed up like a spray painter a few times a week.  Back to the original topic- get well soon, Oliver and yes paracetamol is recommended. Ibuprofen can be more effective on temperatures than paracetamol based on my experience with the kids and paracetamol and ibuprofen. |

You might want to try Paracetemol rather than Asprin

Okay, paracetomol instead of aspirin. I was parroting a doctor who had experienced the Hong Kong flu pandemic of the late 1960s. I don't mind the authorities being prepared for a worst case scenario. What I don't get is the media hyping it and panicking everyone. The government isn't doing much better. We all need a big dose of perspective and soda. By all accounts, the swine flu virus is a much weaker specimen of the breed than the 1968 one, which in turn was weaker than the 1950s one, and so on right back to 1918. Let's get a grip before we miss the whole point. |
