Frankly, I f*cking love Spotify :D

But what about you? Do you use it, don't know what I'm on about, tried it and didn't like it...? :)

By the way, I'm waiting for it to finish listing my 'pie' search

I have it installed, but find that I rarely use it tbh.

It doesn't have any of the stuff I generally like to listen to, but it's great for all the pop stuff that's on the radio so I use it for that. If you've got somebody round who wants to listen to the latest Girls Aloud track or something, then it's ideal.

I find most of what I want to listen to on it, and in the instances of what it doesn't have I turn to my music collection in iTunes.

I thought somebody might say that, and I'm the worst person in the world to explain things

Basically, almost any mainstream artist you can think of is on there, and even some quite obscure ones. And when I say 'on there', you're usually talking their entire back catalogue, far as I can see.

It's all free to listen to, the only slight downside being an ad every 20 mins (still kicks radio's ass) and a few legal issues with songs it seems, though these are few and far between in my experience.

The best bits are building your own playlists and checking out albums before buying (it links to actual download partners if you want to buy) :D

I have 4 invites if anyone wants one, just PM me your email addy.

So, this is a bit like last.fm, but with more adverts?

I've never used Last FM that much, found it to be an absolute mess tbh

I'm told Spotify resembles iTunes :? , but I wouldn't know about that, so...

Last time I checked last.fm played similar music along the lines of what you requested. Spotify however, allows you to pick and choose exactly which songs you want to play and queue them up.

Why do you have invites, and what are they for?

I just went to the website, downloaded the software and away I went. No need for an invite.

:?

IIRC it's easier to sign up via invite, but I obviously haven't looked into signing up since I did it originally (via the PC Pro Blog)..

Invites are for Countries outside of the United Kingdom (and the US I believe).

yes, and i [LIFTED] love it!

tbh, its a legal way to listen to music (instead of torrents..) and uses p2p which helps the p2p cause
its got just about any song i want on it, lots of heavy metal and dance music which is nice
adverts i can live with

http://www.invisiblefestival.org/ <-- should definatly check this out, i first heard about it on here

the playlists are very good, if you share with people they update if the original person updates, its just great tbh

spotify:user:iam_bored_ok:playlist:2grvhd7EVLq5deECnZu2Yw

Yeah, except the last.fm recommendations are usually spot-on. Also, last.fm has never failed to give me details of an artist in my library, which is cool.

Spotify doesn't have the same amount of content basically, which is probably due to some legal trouble with record companies.

Last.fm ftw! :D

There are currently no official details from the developers about how many connections and how much of a user's upstream bandwidth the Spotify client will use when streaming to other users; the Spotify client offers no way for the user to configure this, but this may change in the future.

As he says:

Far as Im concerned, I might actually get off my half meg cap for 6 hours a day if I dont use this, sweett. No from me then...

I don't even know what it is.
I see it mentioned a lot, but I've no real interest in finding out about it, but I guess I will once I read the rest of this thread.
No prizes for guessing what my vote went on.

Mark

EDIT - After reading this thread I'm now kinda clued up on it. Nah, I'd never use it.
If I want to listen to music I'll fire up iTunes or listen to miPod.
