Saw it at the Cinema The problem I have is that after a coupe of hours sitting there you are only at Chapter 5 of what is not that big a book Yes I know that they have brought in other bit but it still (IMO) shows that they have padded it out Also while the special effects are great they are “more of the same” as in “Saw that in LotR” I will still see parts 2 & 3 and when the whole lot comes out in a box set buy it but I was not as wow’d as I was with LotR |

I saw it in the cinema in 3D HFR. I didn't enjoy it one bit. I think it was the HFR that ruined it for me. The whole thing just looked like it was filmed in a Blue Peter studio. When they were in the mountains with rocks being thrown everything just looked like it was made of polystyrene. I just wasn't pulled into the movie at all. It felt more like watching a video of a school production. Having said that, I'm watching the HD, non-HFR version atm and it's much better than I remember. |

LOL! Well I may have been exaggerating. However, the whole film felt like it was always on a set and you could almost feel the cardboard "rocks" wobbling as Bilbo leant on them. |

I enjoyed it in 2D, even though I was sat 6ft from the screen in the front row.
In a way, that's to be expected. It needs to sit with the other films well - I'm curious as to what you mean by 'more of the same' though? |

My problem was that I had read the book recently - well, the unabridged audio book. It was a bit of fun a good adventure, but has very little to do with the Hobbit. |

As I said on the film thread, I really did not like the 3d. I found it very false and distracting. There wasn't even an option to see it in 2d at the time I wanted to go. I've completely forgotten the plot. I just remember lots of big cheeses in cartoon perspective, and being generally annoyed the whole way through - partly by the 3d but also by someone a few rows down being loud and bright (phone) and the arse who stole my dead-centre reserved seat and refused to move. |
