A friend of mine is about to explode she's so excited about the next Depeche Mode song & tour. I think their her favourite band lol. I couldn't chose a favourite band as I like so many. Does anyone here have a favourite band? |

Queen. Though I'm a big fan of AC/DC purely in terms of 'favourite band' too. |

Metallica. Even though they produced a few poor albums in the 90's, they are always good live and 3 of their albums would be in my top 5. Honourable mention to AC/DC too. |

Favourite band? It's a split decision between Queen and The Who for me. |

I was tempted to +1 on Metallica, but it just depends what mood I'm in. I think the last time I actually played Metallica was on a duke box, quite a few years ago. I can play it in my head* now, so there's no real need. So I've decided to let my CDs do the talking. I have spent far more money on PJ Harvey than any other artist. Partly because she's quite prolific, but mostly because I've always absolutely loved her to bits. Prior to discovering her, or indeed her ever releasing a record, I had all of Ozzie's Black Sabbath LPs and a lot of the later line-ups on vinyl by the age of about 13. So yeah, if you'd asked me in 1984 then the answer would have been Sabbath. More recently, My biggest expenditure has been on anything featuring the now retired Koharu Kusumi. CD single imports from Japan are bloody expensive. * Am I supposed to pay royalties when I do that? |

Probably Rocket From The Crypt. (See avatar.) Although G Love & Special Sauce get a special mention too. |

My favourite artist varies over time as my musical tastes change. Plus as any artist continues to develop over time there's always a chance that what they think is good will be different to what I like. So... originally my favourite artist was The Pretty Things, who I discovered in the mid 70s when they released their "Silk Torpedo" album. They had a fairly interesting history and a substantial back catalogue for me to explore, as well as going on the make two more great albums ending with 1980's "Crosstalk". Unfortunately they completely blew it by reforming in the 90s and releasing 2 new albums that were entirely crap. Freur/Underworld kept me interested during the 80s, and I enjoyed their early experiments with house/dance, but after "Second Toughest In The Infants" it got all too boring and predictable. Their most recent work has been a return to form IMO, but there was an awful lot of stuff I really wasn't bothered about before that. My current favourite band are The Birthday Massacre. So far they haven't done anything that I haven't liked. Not bad going for a band who've just released their 5th studio album. Of course the band I play in - Dick Venom & The Terrortones are also one of my favourite bands, but then I'd be a fool to say otherwise, wouldn't I? |

Stafford Galli Without doubt the best live band I've ever seen. Their CD's are okay, but not a patch on them live. The best gig I ever went to was them supporting Goats Don't Shave (who I also follow) at The Mean Fiddler in London. |

Placebo even if I don't listen to them that often nowadays, everytime I hear their songs it's amazing. |

Def Leppard. Not a single album has dissaonted me. Seen four of five gigs, the best of which was at The Point in Dublin (back when it was still called The Point). I have so many rare vinyl pressings of this band at my Mums house in England. I really should plan a trip to get it all back with me. Quite a few other bands would get honourable mentions, but it always comes back to Def Leppard for me. Mark |

I must award that honour to the not entirely accurately named Sonic Youth. Or the Pixies, The Cure, Belle and Seb, or Skinny Puppy. Does Bob Dylan count as a band? |

I've recently been listening to a lot of Meat Loaf. Before that I spent about three years listening to Jethro Tull. I've gone back to Queen a great many times. Queen Greatest Hits was the first album I bought. It was a toss up between them and Status Quo, but Queen won, having an extra cd for the same price... |

What was the first music people bought, and on what format? Mine was "Wheels of Steel" by Saxon on vinyl for full price, and "Dream of the blue turtles" by Sting on cassette from a bargain bucket in Woolworths. I was quite disappointed with both; the only good tracks were the ones I already knew. Although I still find myself humming 747 now, about 30 years later... I've only ever bought one 7" single (Nick Cave, The Moon is in the Gutter), one 12" single (Faith No More, forgotten the A side but the B side Crack Hitler was pretty cool), a few CD singles (all Japanese stuff) and precisely nothing on mp3 because it's usually unavailable (I'm looking at you, Avex) or cheaper on CD. I do grab the free promotional downloads though ![]() Anything you have which sticks out like a sore thumb? My Carpenters collection looks a little out of place, between Bauhaus and Cannibal Corpse ![]() |
