Well I took my wife and ex-boss (whos also a friend) to see Harry Potter & the half blood prince last nice and quite enjoyed it. It has such a darker feel to it over the earlier films (thank goodness!!!). It still suffers from the lack of originality (IMHO) that is inherant in the books but still a good enjoyable film and its nice to see the actors looking so much older than when they first played them ![]() ![]() Even better considering the cinema was packed, there were no occasions of having to shush people up!!!!! So I would give it a solid 7/10. |

Very excited about this, but currently getting through the early ones with an uninitiated friend who I wanna take. My usual Harry Potter person has a boyfriend now and wants to go with him. Up to Goblet, so hopefully will be going this weekend or early next week. We'll see. Can't wait though! |

I've read a few reviews. It sounds like it deviates from the book quite a bit. ![]() I can understand them missing stuff out, but adding stuff..... That's just weird. |

I'm taking the purple one tonight, she's never read the books or seen any of the films, but wants to go to the cinema for the big boxes of smarties...Not sure how she'll manage as she spends loads of time sorting smarties into colour groups and then eats the colours in a certain order...It'll be hard in the dark! I hope it's good, I've not been really really impressed with the films so far, good films, but not close enough to the books for my liking. |

She hasn't seen the films or read the books? She might struggle with the plot then, it assumes prior knowledge. |

Reading books generally ruins movies. There are few exceptions. I haven't read any of them and don't intend to. I enjoy the movies (although Stone and Chamber were a little plodding) and I'm trying desperately to stay spoiler free to the very end. As a movie, Azkaban was probably the best thus far for me. It kept a nice tonal balance, had great pace, and anything with decent temporal mechanics in it get the thumbs up from me ![]() So, I'm interested to see not only how they handle the movie, but what happens with the story! |

I think that was the worst! But then I have read the books and know what a poor adaptation that film was. |

I think all the films sucked. ![]() Poor adaptations of great books IMO. |

Which is probably what made it the best film. Like I said, books ruin movies. If you've read them, you have a (nevertheless interesting, but) biased opinion ![]() |

Just because I enjoy the magic of the movies more than I enjoy reading books I suppose. I have contemplated reading the books after the movies, but then repeat viewings of my DVDs would just wind me up much like the rest of you, no? From what I understand from people I know who read, LOTR was the only one to be halfway decent to the books and even that changed masses of stuff. I've got enough issues with comic-book movies, without ruining any other adaptations. That said, I am very much looking forward to the Time Travellers Wife next year. Although, I'm expecting to be completely disappointed ![]() |

I gave up on the films after the 3rd one. They are just so disappointing - but having read them in English and German as part of learning German means I know the plots and key speeches back to front... I tend to avoid filmings of books I've read these days. The funniest I've seen were: Tom Clancy's Clear and Present Danger : Opens with a salty sea captain, with a white beard, on his last cruise before his retirement - played by a mid 30s female actress with large breasts, instead of a large white beard... ![]() Robert Ludlum's The Bourne... books : The original 1980s mini-series stayed fairly faithful to the books. The Matt Damon films have little or nothing to do with the original books. He is washed up at sea, but for a totally different reason. He DOES have the microdot with the bank code, although it is a laser... But his basic role hasn't got anything to do with the Jason Bourne story! spoiler: Instead of being an academic/good guy draughted in to take on the identity of a killer to track down Carlos, he IS a real assassin... ![]() |

Went to see the film last night, I hadn't seen the fifth film and it's been ages since I read the book, but it al came flooding back. The sixth film seemed slow to start, and then kind of jumped to the end...The ending wasn't as good as the book... |
