Just curious, 'cos it's everywhere, but when exactly might I celebrate still being here? …

If it's based on the Mayan timezone then by my understanding it'll be about 8am on the 22nd, or have I misunderstood the whole palaver?

I'd rather like to toast still being here with a very healthy glass of my favourite malt, but 8am seems a tad early, still'n'all, jolly good excuse to bend the rules what?

So any thoughts on the generally accepted "it was all a load of bollox" time here in the UK?

IMO, it's basically like the odometer on a car going from 999,999 to 000,000 and expecting something amazing or magical. Or like 2000AD (and probably 1000AD) where people expected miracles and nothing happened.

I'm with you on that, but still seems like a jolly good excuse to raise a glass when nothing actually occurs, but was wondering if a definitive celebration time could be pinned down …

(more than likely I'll be zzzing at 8am, but am considering setting my alarm :) )

I'm out on Friday evening, and if the world does end in the morning, I'll have had the pleasure of a bloody good night out before hand. :)

I think that it will be the Pacific Islanders who are wiped out first then we get out chance 12 hours later. ;)

Only if they are going to end of the world parties will they be at any risk of being burgled. And only from burglars who are not concerned about the end of the world.

The Mayans were from Central America which I reckon being around UTC-8. Their 'end of the world' day has been translated in to the Gregorian calendar as being the 21/12/12, now I expect that was done by someone in the EU. So, given that Central America has only just started the Gregorian 21/12/12 and they could last until 23:59:59.999, we should probably wait until 08:00 22/12/12 until we celebrate?

^^^I was thinking the same thing. It should be determined by their local time, not ours. I'd say 24 hours from whenever the Mayan day started. Also, wouldn't surprise me if things were misread/lost in translation and it either already happened or isn't due to happen for another few days/weeks/months/years.

The internet generally seems to agree that it's 11:11 GMT today, although some places think it's 16:11. I guess if you're still here at 17:00 then you've probably survived it :)
ION It is actually the Solstice, today, so regardless of the Mayan goings-on, I will be getting up V.Early tomorrow morning to make sure the sun comes up (or at least that day happens), then there will be feasting!!

Now, there's a sensible person. No need for all this apocalyptic nonsense.

(I shall probably stay in bed tomorrow.)

If I'm still here at 17:00 I'll be fairly upset, as I should be in the pub by then!

I'll be in work when the end becomes nigh.
Seems fitting.
