paranoid I think :( I think im quite OCD'ish about remaining constantly exactly 60mph so if theres anything slightly slower than 60 I will overtake if safe to do so and today on an uphill 3 laner car and a van going about 50-55mph so I use the clear right overtaking lane to overtake them and to make sure I do in good time Im reaching 66-68mph and I pass a mobile speed camera van that is driving too and when I pass it I see its brake lights coming on assuming their cameras still film even when driving place to place?

I did go back to 60mph exactly after the overtake as I always do  so whats peoples bets?

I'm pretty sure the vans only work when parked up so to speak.

If the mobile unit has it's camera going and clocks you doing a speed inappropriate for the road and/or driving in an uncontrolled manner they will tend to pull you there and then, it's only the gantry and stationary cameras that notify you after the fact. I should think you'll be fine.

Some do "Monitor in Motion" but they will usually pull you over right away if there's a problem.

If it's 3 lanes and there are no signs to the contrary isn't the limit going to be 70 mph anyway?

Remember that most car speedometers overestimate your speed slightly.
Based on the rare occasions when I've had sat-nav showing my speed too, my speedo says 70 when I'm actually doing 66. Most police forces will give you a few mph leway before they do you. With both of those together you should be fine.

missing a D on that pun? "you should be fined"

my car is exactly as it showed, my last 406 it was 3mph under but if the dial is on 60 it means it going 60 (instead of going 57)

I think that is the case. There would also be another car ahead to stop bratty if they were concerned. Also you are allowed to break the speed limit temporarily if just to overtake IIRC.

"Sorry officer, but I needed to go 100mph to overtake all those 73 cars that were in my way."

No, the speed limit is the maximum allowable limit of your speed. If you don't want to risk a ticket you don't exceed it. Simples.

You must not drive faster than the speed limit for the type of road and your type of vehicle. The speed limit is the absolute maximum and it doesn’t mean it’s safe to drive at this speed in all conditions.

+1.

It's an urban myth.

If national speed limit applied then for that stretch of road it would be 60mph.

If the speed camera van was moving not parked up waiting to "pounce" then you will be fine.
