just got myself a new honda scooter for transport to and from work as bus fares have gone up to £64 for a 4 weekly pass
the little scooter will only cost about £15 for petrol every 4 weeks ...

Discounting steam locomotives and such, I haven't been on a train in almost twenty years. I'd imagine fairs have risen a wee bit since then already.

Doncaster to Sheffield used to cost about £4 each way.

Don't know what you lot are moaning about. If I were to buy a daily return ticket to work it would be £22.80 lol

I read in paper this morning it was an 11% rise due to the increase in air fares. Umm??? WTF?? :roll:

Personal knowledge: A return bought 2days in advance to Brum: £32 (1h10 on the train, a seat.)
A return bought to Bath a week in advance: £37, standing. 1h40.

Otherwise, Monday morning 8.23 commuter train to London from Rugby, direct only 40 min. £23 pounds and I always got a seat.
Bath to London commuter train: £85 standing.

People complain that pendolino seats are too narrow. They were designed to standards for sizes 10 years ago. You're cramped? Loose some weight or upgrade to 1st class. I am quite happy in those trains (My only comment is the mile walk down the platform at Euston to get to coach a. but that's easily forgotten.)

I must have that wrong - it was definitely around £4, but it may well have been a return ticket.

It's not really a choice on WCML. For my semi-regular journey it's Virgin (or First) or the-twice-as-slow-smaller-and-no-reservable-seats option that is London Midlands. Fairly typically, now I don't need to use the GWML much FGW may not be the operator on that route.

the little honda vision 50 was delivered today
5 miles to work then 5 miles home, down back roads, beats using the buses any day

registered 01/12, one owner, 348 miles on the clock, £1295
which is £355 cheaper then a brand new one and will do about 150 MPG ...

The station car park is pretty big, but on weekdays it can fill up quite quickly. There are other (cheaper) car parks up behind the shops (Baker’s Lane) if you don’t mind the walk to/from the station.
