Post subject:  I'm so glad I quit my job

I'm currently pulling my final weekend support shift for an outsourced IT firm before I move on next month. Right now our email is entirely down, so most customers have no way of telling me their problems (including some in the middle east where Sunday is part of the normal working week). Our remote management servers have completely lost contact with every single customer, so I can't tell if their servers are online, and I couldn't connect to most of them even if I am told about a problem. Our internal servers are up but unreachable through the same system, and I can't even access my own desktop through logmein because a proxy server has crapped out. I'm trying to provide constructive help, but in every text message I send I am fighting the urge to mention how glad I am that I already quit this mickey mouse outfit.

Have you ever been as glad you quit your job as I am right now?

oh yes
some firms/companies are really not worth the effort

the best times were when self employed in the hay days of the 80/90's (made mega bucks)

when the big boys get involved everything just goes down hill from an employees point of view

am very glad i managed to make it myself before the big boy buggers got involved ...

Posts removed as requested.

Most of my jobs where I've had to leave has been through redundancy.

I hope you've got something good to go in to.
I'm currently a contract worker but I know I'd not want to be out of work again so soon (been employed for a year, was unemployed for seven months before this job) after getting this job.
I'd no fun looking for a job in this economic climate.

Sadly it is a lot easier to find a job while you're still employed than when you're not.
good luck with the future.

I was good at the job I used to have, I considered my manager a friend, but I was getting frustrated and I couldn't understand why. One day I went from the lab to the office and I saw my manager sitting at his desk typing away. All I wanted to do was put an axe in his back.

So I handed in my notice next day. It would be nice to say I haven't looked back, but that would be a lie. However I have had so many different good experiences since then that I can definitely say it was the right thing to do.

I LOVE quitting my job. I've done it a fair few times, and every time - it's awesome!

3 times now I've done it with nothing to go to and that's when it's most fun :D

But that's not for everybody, obviously.

I wish had balls as large as yours Okenobi, I did tell my previous company I was too bored to work for them, but that much was obvious to all so they didn't ask for it in writing (I'd probably have scrawled "seeya" in biro on a beer mat if they had).

Well I wish I was as smart and measured in my thinking and writing as you appear to be....

We all have our gifts ;)

I haven't quit a job for years. Before my current job I was contracting so I left when the contract ended. I do like the feeling of freedom you get when working your notice or in other words being paid to do nothing lol

What galls me about my job is that despite severe staff churn it's the absolute dicks who rarely go anywhere - there's very little wrong with the job itself

That's every "job" dude! Get used to it, or go self-employed!

I don't believe that, and my main priority is getting a house so going self-employed (if I even had a clue) isn't an option currently!

Post subject:  Re: I'm so glad I quit my job

I've resigned lots of times mainly due to the fact once I hit 12 months I start to get bored. Since living in Nottingham in 2003 I'm on my 5th job. Fortunately each job has been a step in the right direction for my career so I've been glad every time I've moved on. There has been the odd job where I've been sad to leave the people but not the role.

My last job (with the council) I was more than happy to leave. I hated the place. I considered quitting once or twice without having found a new job but family commitments always stopped me. The difference in my general happiness from then to know is huge.
