I fell the need of a thread for these most august proceedings.

England doing OK at tea on the first day after looking a bit ropey early on. Australia are missing Shane Warne like Stevie Wonder playing darts.

Hurrah!!

Finally a sports thread I can get behind. I've been keeping up with the coverage on t'internet every chance I could get. The Aussies seemed supremely confident during all the pre-match flannel dontchya think??

What's really pissing my off so far is that there is absolutely no coverage unless you have Sky Sports. That really blows.

The purist knows that TMS on the radio is the only way to go. Which can be got free off the interweb if you are in the UK. I assume the highlights will be on Channel 5 this evening.

Do we have a spoiler tag of any sort for scores?

I was listening to the session up to tea on the way home, thanks to the wonders of DAB.

I may well stream it during tomorrow. It's potentially an interesting test, especially as the Aussies haven't got the likes of Warne on the team.

May I also state my displeasure at there being no free to air television coverage of this international institution. I can only hope that now the Beeb has reacquired F1, international test cricket cannot be far behind.

Ah, found that, missed it first time round. 7:15 for those interested. I'd better get my jobs done first!

It’s not August yet. Do we have to spend a month waiting?

You could, but technically it would only have to be 23 days.

Post subject:  Re: The Ashes

Just watched the extended highlights on Sky (sorry Jon) and a few observations

1) The Aussie bowling attack is 'OK' at best. Unless we decided to hand some wickets to them, I can't see then getting 20 very often; however
2) Kevin Pietersen has developed an annoying habit of doing exactly that. That's about the third or fourth time recently he's played a stupid shot and got out when he could have had a century if he'd kept it a bit more simple.
3) We have quite a long batting tail but paradoxically I think our openers are vulnerable.
4) I think this game will be a draw. The track is too spongey for 40 wickets to fall, especially with the weather forecast for the weekend.
5) It will be a low scoring game too. I saw Collingwood (I think) hit one over the bowler that on pretty much every other ground would have taken one bounce and gone over the rope - on the outfield here, it died completely on the bounce and would probably have just crawled to the boundary; however it was moving so slowly the fielder easily caught up with it.
6) The Aussies may not be able to bowl half as well but they can still catch - good batting style will be imperative if England are to win the series. Yes Kevin, you too.
7) That Katherine Jenkins, she's rather attractive isn't she?

I can only assuming that your jaw hit the floor and you are simply trying to hide the fact ;)
