Guillermo del Toro Shares Why He Isn’t Helming ‘Pacific Rim: Uprising’
http://sciencefiction.com/2017/04/06/gu ... -uprising/

On paper it looks mental that you'd give up a massive movie opportunity like Justice League Dark for ropey Pacific Rim. But...

I'd rather see del Toro do Pacific Rim 2 or 3 rather than yet another superhero movie we don't need. He's done two of them that are among the best of that genre (Hellboy 1 and 2) and I think his visionary talent would be wasted doing more. I'd like him to do more supernatural stuff like the brilliant Devil's Backbone.

Supernatural stuff or semi supernatural stuff was actually why he was considering Dark. You had a cynical conman who wielded magic, a saucy bit that did the same with a real lineage to her, the ever ethereal Swamp Thing, a guy who could take over hosts... It was prime GDT material. It would have been different to any superhero film yet, in theory at least.

I couldn't think of a better director for that material tbh.

I'm not the one who has Zatanna behave the way she does :?

The cartoons do her a better turn than the way she's portrayed in the books for instance.

Wished Del Toro had directed the Hobbit trilogy. Those were an epic pile of stink.

Frankly, it seems pretty dismal to me. Yeah, let's take pretty much everything that's iconic about Thor and chuck it away. Mytholo-what now? Yeah, that hammer thing, it's been done so just ditch it, OK? All people really want is fighting, shouting and cool looking space ships, right?

It's crap. It's brain dead in a way that is so bad it pretty much negates the possibility it was ever brain alive. It's a badly made late night MacDonalds of a movie shoved at the audience in the hope they're too drunk to realise what utter slop they're being fed.

I find myself slightly sickened, and the more I think about it the more sickened I become. And that's just from the trailer.

From what I gather they're gonna be playing up the comedy for... many crap reasons. Thor 2 was a plodding mess and what humour there was was ill-placed. There was that one scene in Assemble between Hulk and Thor that everyone liked. Guardians was popular because it was funny, and we need to go space opera for Infinity, so...

For a trailer that should have 'broken the internet' nobody really cares. But then this is actually just the teaser IIRC, because I think the film isn't out until the end of the year? Either way, you'll get to know half the film by the time they and the press are done...

Makes a lot of sense tbf. Even just in terms of a villain who could actually take Superman on. They've already burnt up Doomsday and Luthor in the worst way possible.

Rumor: Could Apple Buy Disney? — LRM Online
http://lrmonline.com/news/rumor-could-apple-buy-disney

I honestly can't see it happening first of all, but $200Bn would actually be cheap for Disney when one of their films can make $1Bn alone. With the Chinese market opening up, Avengers Infinity part one might make close to $2Bn on it's own. Star Wars, Avengers, Disney and Marvel character movies are all worth billions just in licensing and merchandising to the side of the films themselves. Then you've theme parks, stores, enough content for a subscriber channel that would make even more billions... I just can't see it.

Yeah, they got a $190m boost by releasing simultaneously in China, none of the other films were released in China until weeks later. Gotta love those massaged numbers.
